5 amazing benefits of hemp clothing

We love hemp. We adore hemp. It's such a wonderful plant that has SO many benefits. From paper to concrete for your house, the uses of hemp are endless. Our favorite thing about hemp is how awesome it is to use as a textile. Both for us and for the planet. Here are our top five reasons why we love using hemp for clothing.

1. HEMP SQUASHES CARBON

Global warming is the real deal. We're already seeing the effects across the world. Carbon emissions created by the fast fashion industry are a major contributor to the rise in greenhouse gases. Using more hemp for clothing means planting more hemp plants in the ground. Compared to other trees, hemp can absorb harmful CO2 gases much quicker which helps us tiptoe away from that climate crisis line that cannot be crossed.

2. THE SOIL & HEMP ARE IN LOVE

The soil loves hemp just as much as we do :) Compared to modern industrial agriculture practices like monocropping that strip the soil of vital nutrients, hemp actually restores those nutrients back to the soil. Hemp can be regrown in the same soil and be used as a rotation crop which keeps the soil healthy and full of life's nutrients. Hemp also does not require chemical fertilizers, which is amazing. Its natural leaf shedding process provides the soil with enough fertilizer to grow. AND, it's naturally resistant to pests limiting the need for pesticides.

3. HEMP REQUIRES LESS LAND TO GROW

Hemp takes almost half the amount of land to grow as cotton does. It also produces three times the amount of fiber on the same land as cotton. Long story short, less land needed to grow crops means more land for Mother Nature to be Mother Nature.

4. HEMP FABRIC IS ANTIMICROBIAL

Which means you can wear a t-shirt made of hemp like our Be Kind & Shine tee for a week straight and it won't smell. I may have tested that theory out myself :)

5. IT'S EXTREMELY DURABLE

Due to the antimicrobial properties mentioned above, hemp is much stronger and more durable than most natural textile fibers like traditional cotton. Which is great for the environment because a longer lasting garment means less textile waste ending up in landfills. It's also great for us because we an buy way less stuff :)

That's 5 of the many reasons why we love hemp, especially for fabric. Tap here to see our growing collection of products made with the wonderful hemp plant :)
