1. The Love Drug

Oxytocin. Sound familiar? It's been dubbed "The Love Drug". Oxytocin is that warm fuzzy feeling you get when someone gives you a hug or sends a wonderful compliment your way. When this Love Drug is released it has the ability to lower stress and anxiety levels... which is good.

2. Help Others While Helping Yourself

Studies have shown that acts of kindness are linked to increased feelings of well-being. Which, in turn, can help improve our self-esteem.

3. We're Better Together

Being kind is a great way to build and strengthen social networks. When you're kind to someone, they want to be kind back, and now we're friends :) Building a strong and supportive social network helps to reduce feelings of isolation and depression. It feels good to feel good.

4. Good Thoughts

Kind actions bring positive changes to your brain. Being kind boosts serotonin and dopamine, which are neurotransmitters in the brain that give you feelings of satisfaction and well-being, and cause the pleasure/reward centers in your brain to light up. Endorphins, which are your body’s natural pain killer, also can be released.

5. Kindness is Immune(ity)

Remember #1 up top? Where we talk about oxytocin? It's back, with more benefits. Even a small act of kindness can release oxytocin in the body which reduces inflammation, the body's nemesis. Inflammation in the body is related to heaps of different ailments like cancer, chronic pain, obesity, and migraines.
